Coalition Awards Miller-Meeks with Accountability for Middlemen Award

Des Moines, IA – The PBM Accountability Project of Iowa recently awarded Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) with the Accountability for Middlemen Award for her leadership on needed policy changes to reform pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) business practices. The award was presented to Rep. Miller-Meeks at the Medicap Pharmacy in Indianola by a group of local partners including, the Iowa Pharmacy Association, the Iowa State Grange, the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association and the Ames Alliance.

“We’re grateful to Congresswoman Miller-Meeks for prioritizing Iowa small business owners, healthcare providers and patients over PBM profits,” said Mike Fuller, chief operating officer of OneroRx. “For too long, these middlemen have been increasing costs for local pharmacies, impeding our efforts to get patients the medications they need, and driving up out-of-pocket costs for Iowans. Miller-Meeks continues to fight against PBM abuses – we need all of Congress to act now, follow her lead, and finally deliver prescription savings for all Americans.”

Congresswoman Miller-Meeks was recognized for standing up for the American people to ensure patients can access and afford the prescription medicines they need. The coalition acknowledged her recent leadership on PBM reform by re-introducing the Delinking Revenue from Unfair Gouging (DRUG) Act which would break the link between the price of medicines and the fees PBMs charge to help fix incentives in the system that drive up costs for patients and employers.

“While I appreciate being recognized by this coalition of Iowans fighting for lower prescription costs and better accessibility for patients, the real reward will be getting the DRUG Act across the finish line and making a difference for patients and pharmacies here in Iowa,” said Rep. Miller-Meeks.
