...On health care, she is part of a bipartisan group of lawmakers that introduced a bill called the Delinking Revenue from Unfair Gouging Act, or DRUG Act, which attempts to address what supporters view as abuses by pharmacy benefit managers — the companies that serve as intermediaries between insurance providers and drug manufacturers — that contribute to high drug prices.
It would ban practices such as "spread pricing" — when a pharmacy benefit manager pays a pharmacy less for a drug than it charges the insurer.
Small independent and community pharmacies in Iowa are going out of business, Miller-Meeks said. It can take a week to receive medications by mail, leaving access gaps for Iowans in need of medications.
"The DRUG Act would save people money on prescription drugs now," Miller-Meeks said. "Immediately, it would help to save our small and independent pharmacies so that they can stay in business."...
